Galle Face Green is a beautiful stretch of land around 1/2km by the sea, that’s mostly used as a public walkway, located at the heart of Colombo. It’s situated right in front of the old Parliament of Sri Lanka and most of the best star class hotels are situated around it. Galle Face Green also boasts Colombo’s largest and most elegant promenade which is always bursting with activities in restaurants, bars, coffee shops and boutiques.
1st day Night out in Colombo
Founded in the 16th century by the Portuguese, Galle reached the height of its development in the 18th century, before the arrival of the British. It is the best example of a fortified city built by Europeans in South and South-East Asia, showing the interaction between European architectural styles and South Asian traditions.
Kalutara temple is one of the country’s most holy places of worship and attracts both the South West Buddhists and tourists to its golden Buddhist. Inside the Dagoba is a magnificent array of paintings describing the stories of Buddha. The 3 stories-high Kalutara Vihara, is a Buddhist temple built in the 1960s that holds the distinction of being the only shrine in the world that is hollow.
Toddy Tapping means collecting juice from the coconut tree’s flower. It is a great experience to see how these people collect this juice (spirit).
Kosgoda is a famous turtle hatchery operated by the Wild Life Protection Society of Sri Lanka. Founded in 1981 to protect Sri Lanka’s turtles from destruction. The hatcheries pay the fishermen for eggs that they collect at the beach. Visitors are shown the massive tanks filled with newborn baby Turtles. Which are 2-4 days old and are released safely.
Madhu river flows across Balapitiya (approx 80kms down south of Colombo) and is one of the most frequently visited perfect attractions for nature lovers in Sri Lanka. Madhu river boasts of having a gather of 64 small islands spotted along her path and the most of which are covered with mangroves.
Ambalangoda city is famous for its masks and puppets. The traditional masks are carved from light Balsa like Kaduru wood (Nux vomica). Kaduru trees grow in the wetlands near the paddy fields. The wood is smoke-dried for a week in preparation. The hand-carved and hand-painted masks for traditional dance, dramas are famous in Ambalangoda.
During the period of the British (1815-1948) in Sri Lanka, a rest house was built for the advantage of British servants. Today the Bentota is a tropical coastal land which provides the full range of water sports on the beach.
Hikkaduwa offers the perfect place in the south coast of Sri Lanka’s Galle District,. A holiday at the Hikkaduwa beach will make your dream vacation come true. Galle Fort, in the Bay of Galle on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards
2nd day Night out in Mirissa
After the end of the civil war, Sri Lanka discovered one of the best Blue Whale colony’s ever known. A beautiful, huge , perfect creation of God, Blue Whale grows up to 30 meters long and weighs 200 tons. Almost all blue whales travel a long distance to the North and South Pole in search of food. But the whales in Sri Lanka are different they don’t seem to migrate at all, till now no one knows the reason for it. This is pretty unusual but this gives more chances of viewing this amazing creature and making the Sri Lankan coastal area a paradise for whale watching.
3rd day night out Mirissa or Galle
Weligama is located on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, about (24) Km from the historic city of Galle. Just half an hour’s drive from Galle, along magnificent coconut groves, brings you to the breathtakingly beautiful Weligama Bay. Enjoy walks along quiet beaches, still untouched by mass tourism and be fascinated by the famous stilt fishing men. But Weligama is more than beach life. Much more. Weligama beach is recognized for its stilt fishermen. In chest-deep water on the beach, just a few meters off-shore, are the stilt fishermen perched on a crossbar- one on one- of a single pole planted into the sea-bed. These fishermen spend hours with their lines cast out to the sea to catch small fish.
